safety

Anyone would think a playground is a harmless place. But it is the most common place for injuries considering that children are energetic and carefree when on a playground. Children need all the physical and mental stimulation they get through play. Therefore, when providing natural play environments for children, safety is of paramount importance.

This activity is intended to teach students about the traffic light and the importance of following traffic rules.

Each day, thousands of children across the world face situations characterised by abuse and neglect. The onus of intervention does not lie with any single agency or organisation but is a collective community responsibility. India is home to 19% of the world’s children. A study of 12447 children across 13 states in India showed that young children were most at risk for abuse and exploitation.

A mother, sensitive to and aware of the happenings in the society today, writes this letter on facebook addressing her children. Important and relevant to all children, especially teenagers, this letter can also be used by teachers to discuss the various points raised, in the classroom. Please note that while dealing with the issues the letter raises and the questions the children may have, a great deal of honesty and sensitivity is needed.

We are grateful to writer Beji Jaison for giving us the permission to publish her letter on Teachers of India.
