Innovative Ideas - 2015 competition

The Exciting Science Group, a voluntary initiative of  CSIR-NCL scientists and IISER-Pune faculty, are delighted to invite your school to submit entries for the INNOVATIVE IDEAS-2015 competition to be held on Sunday, 22nd February 2015 at CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory,Pune.


  • SELECTED PROJECTS get judged by practicing researchers from premier institutes - CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) – Pune
  • There will be ATTRACTIVE GIFT VOUCHERS for those projects selected by the panel of judges at INNOVATIVE IDEAS 2015.
                        1st Prize   - Rs. 10000/-                     2nd Prize  - Rs. 7500/-                     3rd Prize   - Rs. 5000/-
  • Every participant selected to present posters will receive a certificate of participation.

Rules and Regulations:

1. This competition is open to students from standard 6th to 10th. There are no separate age categories.
2. There is no entry fee for this competition.
3. Entries in all areas of science, medicine, technology and mathematics are welcome.
4. Each entry should be submitted by an individual student or a team of two students.For team projects, the students do not need to be from the same school.
5. Only ONE entry can be sent in by each student.  
6. Entries need to be sent in online, through the form on our website
7. The last date for submission of entries is midnight of Tuesday, 27th January 2015.  The form will be disabled after that and no further entries will be accepted.
8. Only a research IDEA is required to participate for this competition. The actual research need not have been already performed. However, a clear idea of how the research will be performed forms part of the IDEA.  
9. Criteria for evaluation will include:
(a) clear definition of the problem/innovation;
(b) innovativeness of the idea;
(c) thoroughness of the literature survey;
(d) rigour in defining the approach to solving the problem;
(e) feasibility of the approach (can this be done with available resources, etc.)
10. All valid entries will be scrutinized by an expert panel of scientists from CSIR-NCL and IISER-Pune.  A maximum of 50 entries will be selected for the FINAL ROUND, to be held on campus, either at CSIR-NCL or IISER-Pune on Sunday, 22nd February 2015.
11. Entries selected for the FINAL ROUND will be informed via email on Tuesday, 27 January 2015. The selected entries will need to be presented, in person, by the students in the form of a poster or an exhibit.  If your project has been selected for the FINAL ROUND and you are unable to appear in person to explain it to the judges, then you will NOT be considered for prizes.
12. We will NOT be able to subsidize your travel to the venue of INNOVATIVE IDEAS 2015, or provide you with accommodation. All teams will need to make their own arrangements for travel (and accommodation).
13. The FINAL ROUND of INNOVATIVE IDEAS 2015 will be judged by a panel of eminent researchers.  These researchers will visit each project, and discuss the project idea with the students.
14. Prizes will be announced and distributed at the hands of a distinguished scientist on the day of the competition.
