In Comptons effect of scattering of photons when it collide with electon. Electron is assumed to be at rest in momentum conservation equation but how could we have an electron at rest

We can answer this in to ways:-

In compton's effect, energy or momentum of light incident is much larger than electron moving in matter.
X-ray energy~ above 5-10KeV , Electrons K.E ~1 - 10 eV. So, equation will have no effect even if we consider the momentum or energy term of electron.

We can consider this experiment in the frame whose speed is same as electron at the point of collision.
